Welcome to The Career Girl Academy
Hello and welcome back to annahayyy.com!
This past Sunday I attended an event put on by Career Girl Daily (www.careergirldaily.com) at the trendy and aesthetic Hoxton Hotel in Holborn, London. It was a day-long event focused on topics including building a business, networking, how to build a blog and so much more. Interested? Let me tell you more!
If you haven’t heard of www.careergirldaily.com before, stop reading this blog post right now and go check it out (just come back when your done, haha).
I have been reading CGD for a little over a year now. I first came across the website through a Pinterest link. I enjoy the variety of content featured on their blog. As a young female whose driven to build a career, I can relate to a lot of their posts. I never realized the blog was based in London, a lot of their content is related to western culture. However in November (2016) they advertised they were having an event! I cannot begin to tell you how excited I was to attend. This of course, was when I realized that indeed, Career Girl is based in London. Ironically, I was moving to London in January. And, luckily they were having a second event in January. When people say everything happens for a reason, I genuinely agree.
I had full intentions of attending the second Career Girl Academy, but caught up in the blur of moving continents. I had procrastinated getting a ticket. As the event approached I thought why not reach out and help out with the event? I am a blogger, I make YouTube videos, and believe me I am not afraid of hard work. As Wayne Gretzky once said “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take“. So I did what I do best and proposed a collaboration. I was so excited to be a part of the CGD crew on the day of the event.
“I learned so much being surrounded by like-minded woman with so much experience in the industry”
I was blown away by the amount of driven woman who attended the event and was so inspired by the panel of speakers CGD brought in. I really want to share with you my #takeaways from the event. I feel as though valuable information was shared, and for my like-minded readers, I have to share!
#TAKEAWAYS from the Career Girl Academy
Fear is a constant…
Almost all of the speakers had something to say on the topic of FEAR. How fear gets in the way of our dreams, how fear impacts our decisions and how it can compromise your success. I would be lying if I said I’m not afraid of anything, and that I don’t doubt myself sometimes. But, the idea that fear is a constant really resonated with me.
“Change can be scary, but you know whats scarier? Allowing fear to stop you from growing, evolving and progressing.”
Let’s talk about the No Fail Approach! It was discussed in one of the seminars. It entails the mindset of never-failing. If you look at any situation with the intention that you cannot fail, you will see better results. You will get no-where if you give up before even trying. I think a lot of the time that is where we get stuck. We think we are not qualified enough, not smart enough, or not deserving enough. By doing this we set ourselves up for failure.
Stop doubting! I’m going to! I am moving through 2017 with the No Fail Approach in my back pocket. I refuse to be bogged down by what I think I can’t do, and just go for it.
In the realm of fear I was also reminded to stay true to myself. Trust your gut, be exactly who you are, and know that your genuine attitude will attract what it’s supposed to. The combination of the #nofailapproach and #staytruetoyou will make such difference in your mindset and how you navigate through challenges.
Set some goals…
A goal should scare you a little, and excite you a lot. No that we’ve discussed FEAR. Lets talk about GOALS. The women presenting at The Career Girl Academy discussed how vital it is to set goals and track your progress. I myself enjoy setting goals, but realized I could achieve more of them if I found more structure in my goal setting strategy. Let me break it down for you.
Big goals are important. If you have a vision of what you want in life, or your career, write it down. Make it clear and detailed. What do you need to do in 1 year to bring you closer to reaching the end goal? 5 years? 10 years? Make a plan! This makes it easier to track your progress and see if your on the way to success, and if you sway from the plan you can either a) figure out how to get back on track or b) re-write the game plan for success.
It was also mentioned to make little goals, that you can achieve on the way. Accomplishment drives ambition. The tiny wins will keep you focused along the way to your end result.
“If you don’t have big dreams and goals you’ll end up working for someone who does”
I am currently putting together a detailed game plan to crush my goals in 2017. I will update you on my progress along the way. If you are starting a new ‘goal setting game plan’ #everydayannahayyy and tag me (@annahayyy) in your posts, I promise I will hold you accountable for your progress!
Network! Network! Network!
Networking was my favourite part of The Career Girl Academy! It was a new concept for me and I am so glad CGD is giving girls (myself included) an opportunity to network in such an inspiring environment. The purpose of networking is to expand your circle. Meet like-minded individuals and make connections that will help you in the future. Networking helps grow your business or brand and build your contact list.
Meeting other bloggers, photographers, you tubers and fashion junkies opened my eyes. I got to discuss the behind the scenes of their blogs and ask questions. This is how you grow! I am forcing myself to be a networking junkie while in London. Because it truly is ‘who you know’ and the only way to know more, is to get yourself out there!
The Career Girl Academy was the best possible place to network. I am proud to say that I made so many impressions and contacts that I cannot wait to collaborate with.
“Be fearless, be authentic”
In conclusion, there really is no other event like The Career Girl Academy out there! If you are in the London area keep your eyes peeled for their next event! Find your people, find what inspires you and find your niche. This is my motto. Hopefully I have passed on some Career Girl wisdom to you! Please check out their blog for more good stuff (www.careergirldaily.com).
Until next time…
