INSPIRE ME

Connecting you with people, places, and things.

To give you a sense of innovation and imagination.

Chasing inspiration.

Let’s talk Podcasts!

Podcasts have been a huge source of inspiration for me personally over the past six months. I wouldn’t enjoy my morning commute as much as I do now if I wasn’t sitting back with my earbuds in, totally focused. I never thought I would have the patience to listen to a full 45-minute episode OR find a podcast that I felt a connection with. I was so wrong!

Since the start of the year alone, I have discovered so many different shows that I love! I can listen to podcasts on the go which is great because I am always moving around. With my addictive personality, you better believe I am hooked on multiple series. (It’s like Netflix, but better!)

Today I am spilling my opinions on the podcasting trend that is upon us, what it means to utilize your time to feel more inspired and my personal favorites at the moment. I hope you fall in love with podcasts and can source your daily inspiration from your earbuds.

If you don’t know what a podcast is, let me quickly explain.

podcast
ˈpɒdkɑːst/
noun
 1.
  1. a digital audio file made available on the Internet for downloading to a computer or mobile device, typically available as a series, new installments of which can be received by subscribers automatically.

So, podcasts have become quite popular. To me, they are like mini radio episodes that I can listen to at any time. They are a great alternative form of entertainment for those times when you don’t want to “chill out” but more so want to engage your mind. I wanted to discuss the positive and inspiring benefits of listening to podcasts versus music or other forms of media.

Podcasts + Commuting

Inspire Me | Podcasts + Commute

Once I found a rotation of podcasts I enjoyed I started listening to them on my way to work instead of reading (which makes me nauseous on the bus) or aimlessly scrolling through Instagram (which can sometimes just put in a negative headspace). I always have my earbuds in any way, so I thought it would make sense to tune into my podcast playlist instead of my apple music for a change.

When I first started listening to Podcasts, my morning commute transformed. For the first time in a long time, I was engaging my mind in the morning. Listening to different women discuss various areas of their life opened up my perspective. As simple as it sounds, forming new opinions and truly listening to others insight on topics is good for your brain.

I became addicted to this idea that I had 20-30 mins of information to soak up before I got to work. After routinely listening to podcasts on the bus I could feel new ideas coming to life. I found myself constantly thinking about my business, goals and how I was going to make these things come to life.

Pro-Tip: Activating your mind early in the morning works wonders for your overall productivity.

How-To Use Every Minute of Your Day (Even that bus ride babe!)

I recently read an article about a lady in London who wrote a book on her morning tube ride (wow!), and it inspired me to take advantage of every opportunity. (Which included my bus journey at 8 am!)

The morning commute is challenging for all of us. It is early and sometimes challenging to get going and make the most of your time.

Living in a big and loud city can sometimes be overwhelming, and it is easy for me sometimes to get lost in a negative headspace. This anxious feeling of disconnect happens most commonly on public transit.

Instead of allowing myself to feel overwhelmed, stressed or angry on the tube/bus I am trying to focus my energy and attention on more important things. Podcasts have been an amazing new hack to making the most of my time and utilizing my daily hours on transit.

Your Morning Podcast Game-Plan

  1. Listen to your podcast instead of music or other forms of media in the morning. It doesn’t matter whether you drive to work, walk or take the bus.
  2. Download your podcast series onto iTunes and have it ready to go (regardless of wifi connection).
  3. Have your Bluetooth synced up or your headphones ready.
  4. Choose to give your full attention to the podcast your entire journey to work/school which means no scrolling through Facebook or Instagram while listening.
  5. Lock your phone and enjoy!

Never stop learning!

I hope the point I communicate most clearly to you is that podcasts are a great resource to learn new skills, broaden your horizons, gain new opinions and expand your knowledge. I have learned SO MUCH thanks to my roster of girl boss educators on iTunes.

You are never too old to learn more, and dive into a new topic.

The Femme Boss Podcast by Rachel Gadiel

Rachel Gadiel | annahayyy

“This show was born from my love of entrepreneurship. I’m hugely inspired by the insane number of women that I talk to every day and read their blogs, follow them on social media and seeing how they’re creating a business that supports them living a freedom based lifestyle, on their own terms.”

Rachel has a killer Australian accent, and her interviews are amazing! Although there are only twelve episodes (I’m crossing my fingers she is producing more!!) they are full of great conversation and real life advice. The Femme Boss is great if you have a little more time to tune in and listen.

One of my favorite episodes was when Rachel interviewed Mo Seebetum (founder of The Happiness Planner) I love Mo and look up to her success!

You can sense Rachel’s real passion for entrepreneurship, and I love that she is bringing female entrepreneurs into the light and showcasing their success – very inspiring!
